London Southend Airport is a brilliant option for European short-haul flights, and Carlisle is one of England's most historically compelling border cities, now the principal city of Cumberland unitary authority. Carlisle Castle (CA3 8UR) was begun by William Rufus around 1092 and is one of England's great medieval fortresses — Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned here in 1568. Carlisle Cathedral (CA3 8TZ) was founded as an Augustinian priory in 1122 and is the only English cathedral whose building was begun as a Norman priory church; its 14th-century East Window is among the finest Decorated Gothic windows in England. Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery (CA3 8TP) holds outstanding Roman artefacts from Hadrian's Wall and a Pre-Raphaelite art collection. Hadrian's Wall (UNESCO World Heritage Site) runs 73 miles from Bowness-on-Solway near Carlisle to Wallsend near Newcastle — Carlisle is the western gateway and the wall passes through the northern suburbs. The Settle–Carlisle Railway (one of England's most scenic routes) terminates at Carlisle. The University of Cumbria Carlisle campus (CA1 2HH, Fusehill Street) serves several thousand students. Carlisle station (CA1 1LT) is served by Avanti West Coast, LNWR, TransPennine Express, and ScotRail. Nearby: Penrith CA11 (17 miles), Gretna Green DG16 (8 miles into Scotland), Brampton CA8, and the Lake District National Park (Keswick 33 miles).
Trusted by Carlisle Castle visitors, Hadrian's Wall tourists, Lake District travellers, and Cumberland residents for reliable fixed-fare transfers.

Real reviews from customers who've used our Southend Airport taxi service.
"Hadrian's Wall historical tour group of three. We flew easyJet from Southend to Amsterdam and came back to start our Hadrian's Wall trip from the western end at Carlisle. Saloon from Southend arrivals, driver took the M25, M1, and M6, off at Junction 44 and the A689 into Carlisle city centre. Five hours exactly from Southend arrivals to our hotel on English Street CA1. He offered a comfort stop which we took near Penrith. He knew the difference between the Castle entrance on Castle Way CA3 8UR and the Cathedral entrance on The Close CA3 8TZ, which other drivers haven't always known. Train via Euston to Carlisle would have been four and a half hours with the London connection. The taxi was direct, comfortable, and he dropped us at the right door."
"Cumberland resident, fly Ryanair from Southend to Faro. Estate car from Southend arrivals, driver M25, M1, M6, Junction 44, A689, and home to our house in Stanwix CA3 in five hours and ten minutes from Southend arrivals. He took the comfort stop himself near the M6 services at Tebay. He knew exactly where Stanwix is — north of the city past the old Hadrian's Wall line. Checked the train — Liverpool Street, Euston, Carlisle. Then a taxi from Carlisle station to Stanwix. That's five legs of travel minimum. For me and my wife with two weeks of luggage the estate was £160. Train would have been over £80 each and three transfers. Use this service every time we fly from Southend now."
"University of Cumbria student at the Fusehill Street campus CA1 2HH. I fly easyJet from Southend to Amsterdam at the start of each year. Saloon from Southend arrivals, driver M25, M1, M6 and Junction 44, A689, directly to the Fusehill Street campus entrance. Five hours five minutes. He knew the campus is completely separate from the city centre and the castle area, and went straight to the student accommodation block. Train from Liverpool Street to Euston to Carlisle station then a taxi to Fusehill. That's four trips and nearly five hours minimum. The taxi is exactly the same journey time, door to door, and I don't have to carry my bags through two London stations. Booked it again for next year already."
